Director of Children, Youth, and Families

General Summary

The Director of Children, Youth, and Families provides leadership in developing comprehensive Christian spiritual formation for children from birth through high school graduation while supporting parents in the faith formation of their children.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Birth-5th Grade

  • Plan and coordinate children’s programming:
    • Weekly Children’s Message during Sunday worship services
    • Children’s Sunday School
    • Nursery care for infants through preschool
    • Summer Jr. Church
  • Establish and develop relationships with families and partner with them in the spiritual development of their kids
  • Identify, equip, and empower volunteer leaders to build a strong volunteer team
  • Coordinate and lead monthly JR Youth Group
  • Serve as congregational lead and liaison for Pullman Community Day Camp VBS
  • Plan summer fellowship and outreach opportunities for children & families

 

6th-12th Grade

  • Engage in relational ministry with PPC youth and their families
  • Plan and coordinate youth programming:
    • Lead weekly Youth Group for middle school & high school students
    • Lead middle school Sunday School twice per month
    • Coordinate volunteers to lead middle school Sunday School 1-2x per month
  • Identify, equip, and empower volunteer leaders to build a strong leadership team
  • Facilitate opportunities for connecting with youth and their families not engaged in the life of faith
  • Coordinate the football parking fundraiser and provide supervision on WSU game day
  • Work with the pastor in developing the GoFish! summer outreach program
  • Develop and implement confirmation program for high school students

 

Other Duties

  • Coordinate with pastor instruction on the Sacraments for children & families, including first communion class with 4th graders and baptism from birth to 12th grade
  • Research, evaluate, and implement Christ-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum with input from parents and adult volunteer leaders
  • Plan seasonal family fellowship and parent support events
  • Work with the pastor to implement practices that support and engage children, youth, and their families in corporate worship
  • Coordinate opportunities for public witness and service for families
  • Participate in weekly worship, appropriate meetings, and congregational events
  • Ensure the implementation of all applicable church policies, especially with respect to the safety of children, including screening and interviewing potential volunteers
  • Work with the pastor and Session to develop a yearly budget

 

Qualifications

  • Vibrant, personal faith in Christ, manifest in practices and lived expression
  • Commitment to make PPC your home church and faith community
  • Demonstrated experience in children and/or youth ministry
  • Ability to engage children, youth, and their families in authentic relationships
  • Effective communicator and teacher
  • Ability to recruit, train, and sustain a volunteer leadership team
  • Flexible and creative self-starter with a strong work ethic and team player
  • Solid organization and detail oriented skills
  • An eagerness to learn with a teachable spirit
  • Computer competency and comfortable using technology
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Licensed driver with no major moving violations on record

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move 10-25 pounds
  • Ability to swim and be comfortable around the water

 

Important Details: 

  • Reports to pastor
  • Position – Full time, 40 hours
  • Compensation – Starting at $45-55,000 depending on experience & education
  • Benefits package 

 

Couples: This position is open to couples for job-sharing. Spousal accommodation for an additional administrative position is open for consideration.
